Color Picture Project
August 26, 2012
This project was a little difficult to find some pictures to go with the strategies and all that, but now all I seem to be looking at is the color around me and thinking if it's contrasting or harmonious.
A couple of my favorite pictures of images I found are:
(Harmonious Chroma) In this Ralph Lauren article all the color
chromas are very bright and really draw in the eye. The eye does move around
all over the entire add, which can either be good or bad depending on what the
artist was trying to get his audience to look at. I think the ad looks fun and
engaging and the colors used in it correspond to the colors of the perfume
bottles that they are trying to sell. This being said I also think that each
individual color was supposed to represent a different emotion, whether it be
romantic, happy, spontaneous, etc. I think the artist that created this article
did an excellent job of using color.
(Hues Value or Chroma Dominance)With the brightness of chroma in each of the
colors, it helps each of them each stand out as individual colors. There is
more blue than green, but the green is so high in chroma that it is just as
balanced as the blues are. The chroma dominance here is high chroma, but what
stands out are here eyes and the butterfly, which it probably what the artist
wanted his audience to look at most. Because it's for a Couture picture, of course its supposed to focus on the beauty in make-up.
(Transition in Hue, Value, or Chroma) This picture is really interesting. The colors
flow from warm to cool colors, which help with the transition and balance. The
colors pop; there isn’t just one part to look at more than the other. They are
able to flow because they are in such high chromas and the colors bland
together and that makes the picture successful as a whole. This picture is upside down. It's supposed to be a door.
(Key the Color) The original picture is just in black and white,
but when the tint of sepia and warmth were added it made the scene become more
realistic. It became more romantic. The color looks like the sun was setting
and the people were falling in love. Keying the color helps add to the mood and
gave a romantic feel.
(Contrasting values) This Kansas lanyard does has contrasting values
with the light pink and the darker blue. The light pink helps the blue and
yellow stand out more than it would if it was a darker or maybe brighter pink.
In some ways it is hard to look at because the colors do contrast so much, but
that also makes it successful.
(Contrasting Hues) This cup has red and green on it and they are
colors across from each other on the color wheel. Because the red and green
have different values, it helps make the colors themselves pop more because
they aren’t harmonious and they don’t blend together. This makes it successful
and it moves the audience’s eye around more.
(Soften the Contrast/ Weaken the Chroma) On this tube, the background is weakened. The
colors are lighter and softer, which helps the bow and the name stand out more.
The background doesn’t grab too much attention away from the name of the
product. Together the design and the color scheme are beautiful, and it is
successful in ways that it slows the eye. The audience will recognize the bow
and name first but then they will also look at the background.
